Kraków walking tour – essence of the city” is a four-hour walking tour created for those tourists who want to discover the richest history of the former capital of Poland. The tour, full of anecdotes, legends and touching stories, will enrich tourists’ knowledge with interesting bits and pieces connected with Kraków and its residents at that time. The tour starts in the famous Floriańska Street located in the Old Town. This is where we meet with the group of tourists in order to take a walk along the Royal Route leading through the most recognisable and picturesque streets of the city. At the beginning of the tour every tourist will receive a city map which will allow each of them to follow Kraków’s history while memorising its architectural layout. The culmination of the visit in the Old Town is a charming observation deck in the Wawel Hill with a panoramic view of the city. Next tourists will walk in the direction of the Jewish district – Kazimierz – which is characterised by the thriving atmosphere on the one hand and the suffering connected with the cruel times of the Nazi occupation and Holocaust on the other hand. Continuing the story about World War II and the culmination of the whole tour is the Podgórze district. Here tourists will visit the Ghetto Heroes Square followed by the Oskar Schindler’s Enamel Factory where the “Kraków under Nazi Occupation 1939-1945” permanent exhibition has been arranged. It presents testimonies of the World War II witnesses in a chronological order.
During the “Kraków walking tour – essence of the city” sightseeing tour tourists will see the most magnificent places and monuments of Kraków, which survived World War II. This specially designed route includes three most important districts that attract thousands of locals and tourists every day. The first place tourists will visit and the starting point of the sightseeing tour is the Old Town. In this part of the city tourists will see the monuments located along the Royal Route and hear legends and anecdotes about the people who contributed to the creation or making these monuments famous. They will also listen to the trumpet call in the square. Then tourists will walk to the Wawel Hill with the Wawel Cathedral, castle courtyard and cloisters. While walking to the observation deck they will see a picturesque view of the city and the Vistula river bend. The second part of the tour will take tourists to the Jewish district – the famous Kazimierz. Here tourists will hear the story of Jewish people who settled here at some point creating “a city within a city”. The group will visit such places as the yard where scenes from Steven Spielberg’s “Schindler’s List” were shot. They will also hear a historical overview and legends about the origins of three Jewish synagogues. The last part of the tour leads to the Ghetto Heroes Square located in the Podgórze district. Here tourists will learn about the symbolic meaning of chairs that commemorate Holocaust victims. The last stop of the tour is the Oskar Schindler’s Enamel Factory which tourists can visit on their own to deepen their knowledge about World War II in Kraków.
