“Everything started here, in this town, in Wadowice” – these were the words of John Paul II referring to his hometown in conversation with its inhabitants on 16th June 1999 during his last pilgrimage to Wadowice. A trip in the footsteps of the man whose life inspired and was followed by millions of people from all around the world allows the participants to go back in time to the childhood and young years of Karol Wojtyła, as well as the subsequent period of his priesthood. The trip includes a visit to the famous Town Square, with which young Lolek Wojtyła was closely involved. This is the location of his family house (now the John Paul II Family Home Museum), of the parochial church where he was baptised and of the common school he attended (now the Magistrate). The journey in the footsteps of the Holy Father includes a tasting of delicious cream pies – the Pope’s favourite pastry made of two layers of puff pastry filled with creamy buttercream. The tour route is surrounded by the sights of glorious Beskid summits – the Pope’s beloved mountains, through which he made solitary treks. The price includes transport by a private car. Wheelchair users are provided with transport by a specially adapted car. With a view to providing the participants with maximum comfort, we may lend you a wheelchair free of charge.

More about the tour

Wadowice is a town situated where the Maków Beskids meets the Little Beskids and the Silesian Foothills. The central part of the town, the Town Square, is associated mainly with the young years of Karol Wojtyła and his family due to the close proximity of their home to the Virgin Mary’s Offertory parochial church located in the Town Square. The family had a view on the church wall and the sundial with an inscription “Time flies, eternity waits” when Karol was born on 18th May 1920. On the Holy Father’s 64th birthday, his family home was officially opened to pilgrims and tourists as the Holy Father John Paul II Family Home Museum, commemorating the life and activity of John Paul II in Poland before he was elected Pope. The museum is fully adapted to the needs of wheelchair users with elevators and ramps. The specially designed route includes milestones in Pope’s life with disabled persons access. The tasting of creamy pies loved by Pope will be held in one of the best pastry shops in Wadowice with disabled persons access.
