Tourists arriving in Kraków for a couple days certainly want to take advantage of the city’s rich offer without having to choose between one of the world’s most recognisable destinations located in the Kraków region: the Wieliczka Salt Mine and the Birkenau Concentration Camp. To provide tourists with an opportunity to see both of these places, while taking into consideration the limited time of their stay, we decided to combine these two options into a single, one-day trip.
During the trip, you will have an opportunity to take an individual tour of the largest concentration camp – the Birkenau Camp, the place where gas chambers and crematoria are located, as well as to pay a visit to the former Monowitz Camp and the Fountain of Tears. After that, you will have a chance to see a very well-known salt mine, visited by about 2 million tourists every year.
During your trip on an air-conditioned bus, you will have the opportunity to watch a relevant documentary and receive an informational brochure along with a map.
After the visit to the Birkenau Camp, there is a lunch break scheduled in a local restaurant, on the way to the Wieliczka Salt Mine.
Large items of baggage or backpacks are not permitted on the Museum grounds. The maximum size of baggage, backpacks or purses that visitors may carry on the siteis 30x20x10 cm.
Bring warm clothing and comfortable shoes. Temperature underground ranges between 14° and 16° C.
Birkenau Camp was the largest part of the Auschwitz-Birkenau – German Nazi Concentration Camp, which operated between 1940–1945. It is estimated that over 1.1 million people detained in the Camp died during that period. Around 90% of casualties were Jews. Most of them were put to death in gas chambers and others were victims of brutal punishments, medical experiments or inhumane living conditions in the Camp. A visit to the Museum allows you to learn about the dreadful fate of these people and broaden your historical knowledge of the Holocaust.
In continuous operation since the Middle Ages, and present on the UNESCO Heritage List for 40 years now, the historic Wieliczka Salt Mine offers visitors a unique view of a salt city.
Visitors can walk down kilometres of walkways and ramps, passing by breathtaking chambers, lakes, extraordinary salt statues, and even places of religious worship.
The microclimate rich in iodine will fill your trip not only with unforgettable experiences, but also with health benefits. The Wieliczka Salt Mine attracts over a million tourists from all over the world yearly.
