Wieliczka Salt Mine Tour from Krakow

From Krakow to the Wieliczka Salt Mine

Your tour begins in Krakow, where you will be taken by bus to the Salt Mine. At the Daniłowicz Shaft, you will meet an official Wieliczka Salt Mine guide, who will lead you through the underground route and reveal the history, stories and traditions of this UNESCO-listed site.

Descending Into the Mine

The underground visit starts with a descent of approximately 380 steps to Level I, 64 metres underground. From there, you will explore a fascinating network of passages, impressive chambers, wooden structures, saline lakes and unique sculptures carved from salt.

As you move through the mine, your guide will explain how generations of miners created this extraordinary underground world and share the stories behind its most remarkable places. The combination of history, spectacular interiors and the unique underground atmosphere makes the visit much more than a traditional sightseeing tour.

Two Hours Beneath the Surface

The guided Tourist Route lasts approximately 2 hours and includes more than 800 steps. At the end of the visit, you will return to the surface by lift from Level III, 135 metres underground, before travelling back to Krakow.

One of Poland’s Oldest Salt Mines

Active since the Middle Ages, the Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the oldest salt mines in Poland, reflecting centuries of mining history and craftsmanship. Its chambers, corridors and salt sculptures create a unique underground landscape. The mine was one of the first 12 sites in the world to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
