A few reasons why you should visit Krakow

Kraków

Surely you know that Krakow is one of the oldest, most beautiful and most popular cities among tourists. However, what makes it different? What is worth seeing there? What to expect? If you want to know the answers to these questions, stay with us until the end of the article!

Beautiful places in Krakow

The first reason why you absolutely must visit Krakow is the breathtaking sights and intriguing places! You should start with the famous Old Town. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it stands out primarily for its Main Square, also known simply as the Old Market Square. Its architecture is truly impressive, and the Cloth Hall, located within the Market Square, allows you to feel the unusual atmosphere of a medieval marketplace. There you can buy souvenirs associated with Krakow and captivating handicrafts, including jewelry and porcelain. Old Town areas also include the Florian Gate and St. Mary’s Church. The ubiquitous narrow streets hiding bookstores or cafes are downright delightful! If you’re a fan of sightseeing, such a trip will be quite a treat for you. Other interesting places in Cracow include:

  • Kazimierz
  • Barbican
  • Czartoryski Museum
  • Wawel Castle
  • Planty
  • Bulwary Wiślane
  • Kosciuszko Mound
  • Błonia

If you want to visit most of them, one weekend is certainly not enough. The good thing, however, is that it is possible to find reasonably inexpensive accommodations in Krakow, especially in the hostels that are popular these days. If you love art, you’ll definitely find it worth visiting Krakow.

Culinary Krakow

Here’s the second reason why you should visit Krakow: the cuisine. Krakow is worth a trip if only to sink into an exciting culinary experience! Restaurants, pubs and cafes are plentiful there. Simple and filling Polish cuisine intermingles with the sophisticated and high-class, fast food neighbors with prestigious meals, vegetarian pubs tempt with a healthy menu, where you can buy a gourmet hamburger right next door. There is something for everyone here. Some restaurants are inspired by the history of Cracow, and these are the ones I recommend looking into, although you can buy the famous matzohka krakowska even in a food truck. Worth mentioning here is the Bottiglieria 1881 restaurant, which is the only one in Poland to have earned the prestigious Michelin star. Of course, you can’t forget to taste the Cracow obwarzanek, sold everywhere, or the Pope’s cream cake from a patisserie!

Night life of the city

Slow strolls, viewing unique architecture and entering charming cafes are a great plan for a trip to Krakow, but don’t forget that this is a student city that is incomparably vibrant at night! Everyone should see it at least once in their life, starting with the beautifully lit Market Square: crowds take to the streets, clubs are adjacent to pubs, in some places we can listen to live music, others offer typical discos. Even if you don’t intend to dance the night away, it’s worth just visiting Krakow, going out and tasting the vibe!

Now you know what it means to have a few reasons why you should visit Krakow! The second one you will surely find on your own, once you go there and go “on the spur of the moment”. I can say with conviction that Krakow is among the most beautiful cities you can visit in Poland.
